No vertical feed on the home page, so you open YouTube for the video you came for and not for twenty clips.
Free extension for Chrome
YouTube Hide Shorts takes Shorts off the home page, search results, subscriptions and the sidebar, so you see regular videos again. A Shorts link opens in the normal player. It is on from the first second; one key in the popup turns the Shorts blocker off.
Also works in Edge, Brave, Opera and other Chromium browsers on desktop.

One click on the Chrome Web Store. Hiding is on from the first second.
The home page, search and subscriptions show regular videos, playlists and channels, with no Shorts mixed in.
Click the toolbar icon and press the key. Shorts return at once, no reload. Press it again to hide them.

Link
A friend sends a Shorts link? Watch it in the regular player, with rewind, speed and the progress bar.
The home page, search results, subscriptions, the list next to a video, the sidebar (full and narrow), the channel tab and the filter chip.
A /shorts/ link opens a small screen: Watch as Regular Video, or Go Back to where you were.
The big key in the popup strikes the Shorts card when they are hidden. Pages react at once, and the toolbar icon shows the state.
Your on/off choice and language are saved with Chrome sync, so they follow you to your other computers.
The popup and the link screen are translated, and the popup follows your system's light or dark theme.
Hiding is plain page styling inside your browser. It adds no delay when pages load and never talks to a server.
Not for good. On the home page you can dismiss the Shorts shelf, but it comes back after a while, and search results, subscriptions, the sidebar and channel pages keep showing Shorts. There is no switch that removes them everywhere.
YouTube Hide Shorts adds that switch. It hides the Shorts elements on the page as YouTube draws them, so they don't flash in and out. Nothing is deleted from your account: turn the extension off and everything is back where it was.
Nothing to sign up for, nothing to log in to.
No analytics, no ads, no servers of its own. It knows nothing about your history or what you watch.
Storage, to remember on/off and your language. www.youtube.com, to hide Shorts and show the link screen. It cannot read or change any other site.
